The Amphitheatre
in the Middle of Winter

In an attempt to reconnect with the original muse, mother nature - while putting yourself at risk of falling off steep edges, hypothermia and dehydration. An incredible three day trek on one of South Africas most popular hiking destinations. The Amphitheatre, Drakensberg.
First thing in the morning armed with my pancake lens this shot was created with a composite of 40 images stacked together to create this rich detailed portion of one of the cliff faces on the Mountain side.
Exhausted after the second day of hiking I knew that this evening would be my best attempt at capturing the night sky. It was a  New Moon known as lions gate but the temperature at night begun to drop, and between my 30 second shutters I found myself drifting between sleep and consciousness. Pascal himself was getting very cold but was happy with getting the shot before we climbed into our tents at a toasty -11 degrees celsius.
